The ICC World Cup 2019 will begin from May 30 when hosts England take on South Africa in the opening match of the tournament. The tournament will run till July 14 and will see the top ten ODI teams battling it out for the title of World Champions. The tournament is reverting back to the 1992 World Cup format where the top eight ranked ODI teams along with two qualifying teams will contest each other in round robin format.
Many experts and former players are naming their favorites to win the tournament and former Pakistani captain Mohammad Hafeez has also revealed his favorites to win the tournament and lift the trophy.
Hafeez chooses India and England apart from Pakistan to win the trophy
Pakistan has lost to New Zealand, South Africa in ODI series recently, but Hafeez, who is hopeful of playing his third World Cup, has high hopes for his own team as well. “Even from a critical point of view, I think we are among the top three favorites for the World Cup. England are always favorites given the brand of cricket they are playing while India has developed a very good ODI side and have some great spinners in their line-up,” Hafeez was quoted by Times of India (TOI).
“In the group system teams usually don’t get second chances and remember in 2007 both India and Pakistan were eliminated in the first round,” he further added.
“We have been playing together as a unit for a while now and we try to support each other a lot. I have a feeling we will do very well in the World Cup. Whenever we have played there the support has been immense and it also encourages the players to give their best,” Hafeez said about Pakistan’s chances in the World Cup.
