A never seen side of Shakib Al Hasan with the bat was on the display at the World Cup 2019 as the all-rounder bowed out of the tournament as the leading run-getter. His top position might be dethroned on the very next day but the consistency with which he scored will be unmatched. Shakib scored 40+ runs in all the eight matches including two hundreds and five half-centuries. The responsibility of batting at No.3 brought the best out of the southpaw who did well with the ball as well. Shakib picked up 11 wickets in the tournament including a 5-wicket haul.

Here are all the major stats and records created by Shakib Al Hasan with his all-round efforts in the World Cup 2019:

0 – Number of instances of a player scoring over 400 runs in a single edition of World Cup having picked up 10+ wickets before Shakib Al Hasan. The all-rounder ended up with 606 runs besides 11 wickets with the ball. In fact, no player from Bangladesh even scored 400 runs in a series/tournament in International cricket before this.


1 – Shakib is also the first player to aggregate 600 runs in the group stages of a World Cup and in fact, the first to do so in an ODI tournament. Sachin Tendulkar’s tally prior to the knockout phase in the 2003 edition read 586; the previous most by any player. Among the players with 10+ wickets in a group stage of an ODI tournament, no one cross even scored 500 runs before Shakib.


2 – The all-rounder from Bangladesh is the only player in the history of the World Cup with two centuries and two 4-wicket hauls. Shakib scored both his CWC tons in this edition; against England and Windies in consecutive matches. His first 4-fer in CWC came against New Zealand in 2015 while he picked a 5-wicket haul against Afghanistan in this tournament.


3 – Shakib is one of the three players to have scored a century and taken a 5-wicket haul in the same edition of the World Cup. Kapil Dev in 1983 and Yuvraj Singh in 2011 are the other two players with this double.

However, Shakib is the only player with two tons and a 5-fer in the single CWC edition and the only player with the double in any ODI series/tournament.


7 – Shakib has scored fifty-plus runs in seven out of eight innings in this tournament; the joint-most by any player in a World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar also had seven scores of 50+ in the 2003 edition but from 11 innings.

No other player has scored more than five 50-plus scores in a World Cup edition at the end of Pakistan-Bangladesh game. In fact, Sachin and Shakib are the only players to score 50+ runs on seven instances in an ODI series/tournament.


8 – Shakib crossed the 40-run mark in all the eight innings in this tournament. The only instance of him not scoring a fifty was against Australia where he was dismissed on 41. The Bangladesh player is only the 2nd with eight 40+ scores in a World Cup.

Matthew Hayden was the first to do so in the 2007 edition. Sir Viv Richards scored over 40 on nine instances during the 1984/85 Bensons and Hedges World Series Cup; the only other instance of a player with 8 and more 40+ scores in an ODI series/tournament.


12 – Shakib has 12 fifty-plus scores in the World Cup including the seven in this tournament; the joint 2nd most by any player in the history of World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar has as many as 21 while Kumar Sangakkara also has 12. Considering only fifties, Shakib (10) is only the 2nd player with 10 fifties in the World Cup after Sachin Tendulkar (15).


356 – The 31-year-old amassed 356 runs across five defeats in the tournament; the 2nd most runs by any player in defeats during a CWC edition. Brendan Taylor scored as many as 386 runs from five losses of Zimbabwe in the 2015 edition.


548 – All the 606 runs scored by Shakib in the tournament are while batting at No.3 position; the most by a non-opening batsman in a World Cup. Mahela Jayawardene’s total of 548 runs in the 2007 CWC edition is the previous most by any player in a World Cup while batting at No.3 or lower position.


606 – Shakib’s tally of 606 runs from eight innings in this tourney is the 3rd highest by any player in a World Cup (As after the PAK-BAN match). Sachin Tendulkar scored 673 runs in the 2003 edition from 11 innings while Matthew Hayden tallied 659 runs from ten knocks during their victorious 2007 campaign.
