ICC World Cup 2019: SRH head coach Tom Moody picks his favourites for the tournament
"They are absolute certainties to be in the top four."
The head coach of the IPL’s 2016 season champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has been associated with the Hyderabad-based franchise since the first edition of its formation. Sure the SRH faced a narrow defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening game in the IPL 2019, but they have only upped their game so far after winning the next two fixtures.
The SRH team now hold the third position in the IPL 2019 points table. No wonder their head coach and former Australian cricketer Tom Moody is satisfied with the team’s improvement, so far, and is confident ahead of the upcoming fixtures. SRH next face the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Thursday.
The IPL 2019 is not just the like the usual seasons as the World Cup-bound players and team management have their primary focus on the ICC event. The ICC Cricket World Cup, which is to be held in England and Wales commences on May 30- soon after the 12th edition of the marquee T20 league comes to an end.
Moody deems India as one of the top contenders for World Cup 2019
In this light, SRH coach Moody picked up his favourites for the mega event. According to the Hindustan Times, the 53-year-old coach was quoted saying, “The standouts are India and England. They are absolute certainties to be in the top four. What is exciting about this World Cup is a number of sides can easily find themselves in third and fourth positions. Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and West Indies — I don’t think people thought of them 12 months ago. Windies are a serious threat, particularly if someone like Sunil Narine comes back into the equation.”
Moody, who has been associated with the Sunrisers Hyderabad team since 2012 and also saw them win the championship in 2016, has been involved with two of Afghanistan’s star cricketers who also represent SRH in the IPL: Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi. Hence the ex Australian cricketer also added that a team like Afghanistan as the dark horses in the upcoming World Cup and that it would be all exciting to watch them surprise fans.
“The other exciting thing is the interest and intrigue around what Afghanistan are going to do. I don’t care who you are in this tournament, you are going to be on watch when you play Afghanistan,” Moody concluded.
