With the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 knocking at the door, fans and experts all around the world are full of opinions. These opinions are regarding their favourite teams for lifting the title, the promising players, of who will shine in the showpiece event, etc. Amidst all this excitement, England Test cricketer Stuart Broad has revealed who he thinks would be the leading run-scorer at the Cricket World Cup.
As for Stuart Broad, who last played an ODI for England back in January 2016, his World Cup hopes are all over. Soon after England’s shameful World Cup exit in 2015, the team were not received very well when they arrived back to the country. In fact, after Stuart Broad stunned the world with his figures of 8/15 against Australia at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham, he wrote it all in his book.
Broad’s autobiography, which was launched in early 2016, was named ‘Broadside-Ashes Triumph and England’s New era’. The book encapsulated the time when the team was shamed after their dismal performance in World Cup 2015 and the way fans reacted. It further showcases the drastic change the Ashes win brought about. England defeated Australia by a margin of 3-2 in the Ashes battle of 2015.
But England’s biggest revolution was the change of face of their limited-overs setup. The same board that was criticized for making last minute changes to the World Cup and giving captaincy duties to Eoin Morgan, stripping Alastair Cook off the title. Leading pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad were also dropped from ODIs. Come to today’s date, England are in top form and have their biggest chance to win the World Cup for the first time in history.
Joe Root is England’s highest run-getter since CWC15
As England step into the ICC event starting their campaign on May 30, Joe Root will be their highest run-getter since the conclusion of the previous World Cup. The England Test captain has amassed 3295 runs at 58.83 in 70 innings. And when the official handle of the Cricket World Cup tweeted a question- “The leading run-scorer at CWC19 Will be___”, Stuart Broad replied with Joe Root as his favourite.
