The World Cup qualifiers witnessed another set of thrilling matches on the 2nd day where Zimbabwe clinched a thriller against Afghanistan by two runs. UAE put on a good show with the bat to lose only by 60 runs after West Indies posted a huge total with help of centuries from Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetmyer. Scotland won a low scoring game against Hong Kong while William Porterfield’s ton outshined Tony Ura’s 151 in another game.

2 – Afghanistan’s 2-run defeat is their narrowest defeat in the ODI format. They lost to Zimbabwe by three runs in the last year’s Harare ODI.
11 – William Porterfield scored his 11th ODI ton in the game against PNG. He now has the most number of ODI tons among the players who didn’t feature in a Test. He went past Australia’s Aaron Finch who scored ten ODI tons without a Test appearance.
24 – Number of wickets for Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Zadran while opening the bowling in ODI cricket which are highest for a spinner. He opened the bowling in all the ten ODIs he featured in. Mujeeb went past left-arm spinner Amir Hamza who took 23 wickets while opening the bowling.
Stats: Chris Gayle’s record 100 against UAE in numbers
64.25 – Percentage of PNG’s total scored by Tony Ura. He scored 151 against Ireland with his team getting bowled out for 235. This is the 4th highest percentage of team’s runs scored by a player in a completed ODI inning and also the highest in an all-out inning.
91 – Hong Kong’s total of 91/10 against Scotland is their lowest ODI total. Their previous lowest was 101 against Bangladesh in 2004. Their defeat with 159 balls to spare is also their worst defeat in this format.
151 – Tony Ura became the 5th associate nation player to score a 150+ in the ODI format. Scotland’s Calum Macleod (3), Kyle Coetzer and Ireland’s Ed Joyce and Paul Stirling are the other four players with 150+ ODI scores while being associate nation players.
235 – PNG’s total of 235 is the 3rd lowest in an ODI to include an individual 150+ score. Sri Lanka made 229 against India in 1997 with Sanath Jayasuriya scoring 151* while Australia made 232 against Bangladesh in 2011 when Shane Watson scored 185*.
297/6 – UAE’s total of 297/6 against West Indies is their 2nd highest total in the ODI format. They made 300/6 against Scotland earlier this year.
357/4 – West Indies’ total of 357/4 against UAE is the 3rd highest ODI total in Zimbabwe. New Zealand made 397/5 against Zimbabwe in 2005 while South Africa scored 363/3 against the hosts in 2001 with both in Bulawayo. The WI-UAE game was the first International game at the Old Haraians ground.
