ICC World Cup Qualifiers, 2018: Day 6 – Statistical Highlights

It was a historic day for Nepal who claimed ODI status for the first time following a win over PNG and Netherlands defeating Hong Kong in the playoff matches. In the Super Sixes round, Scotland crushed UAE to remain unbeaten while Afghanistan finally showed their capability in the tournament by defeating West Indies. UAE crashed out from the race to a CWC 2019 spot after the defeat while Afghans kept their hopes alive with a nervy win.

All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during the first day of the Super Sixes round:

1 – Rashid Khan registered his maiden win as captain in International cricket. He led Afghanistan in three games with ODI status in the league stage of the tournament where they lost all of them. The win against Nepal was in a List A fixture.

3 – Mujeeb Zadran received his 3rd man of the match award in ODI format. He now holds the record for most number of man of the match awards before turning 17 in ODI cricket. Shahid Afridi received two man of the match awards before turning 17. No player other than Mujeeb and Afridi had match awards before turning 17 in International cricket.

4 – Keemo Paul took a wicket with his first legal delivery in ODI cricket. He became the 4th West Indies player to take a wicket with the first ball in ODIs and the 3rd Windies player with a wicket off the first ball in International cricket.

5 – Jason Holder became the 5th West Indies player to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in ODI cricket. He completed 100 ODI wickets in this game to become the 17th Windies player to bag 100 wickets in this format.

8.5 – Economy rate of Chris Sole during his 4/68 in eight overs against UAE. Only Shingi Masakadza (8.6) conceded at a worse economy rate while taking an ODI 4-wicket haul after bowling eight overs. The Zimbabwe player conceded 86 runs in ten overs against South Africa in the 2010 Bloemfontein ODI.

19 – Afghanistan’s win against West Indies is their 19th ODI win against a Test playing nation (other than Ireland). They defeated Zimbabwe in 15 ODIs and registered two wins against Bangladesh and Windies.

101 – Mohammad Nabi became the first bowler to take 100 wickets in ODI cricket for Afghanistan. Nabi took his 100th ODI wicket with the first ball he bowled in the game. Dawlat Zadran (92) and Rashid Khan (91) are also nearing 100 ODI wickets for the Afghans.

584 – Number of defeats for West Indies in International cricket. These are the joint 3rd most number of losses for any team in Internationals. England lost 668 games while India lost 604 matches in International cricket. New Zealand also lost 584 games across all formats.
