Windies survived a scare from Scotland to make it to the 2019 World Cup as they won their final Super Sixes game by five runs on the DLS method. The Caribbean side recovered from 2/2 with fifties from Evin Lewis (66) and Marlon Samuels (51). However, the Scotts came back strongly to clean up the opposition to just 198. Scotland lost three wickets for just 25 but small partnerships helped them to recover. They made 125/5 in 35.2 overs when the rain stopped the play which never resumed. The par score at 35.2 overs was 130 for the loss of five wickets.

1 – This game is the 144th ODI at the Harare Sports Club but the first at the venue to witness a wicket by the first ball of a game. Chris Gayle was caught behind on the first ball in Safyaan Sharif’s bowling.
6 – Chris Gayle got out on the first ball of an innings for the 6th time in ODI cricket. No other batsman got dismissed by the first ball of the ODI innings more than four occasions.
14 – Windies’ innings is the 14th instance in ODI cricket where two of the top four scored 50+ and the other two bagged ducks in the same innings. The last such instance was by South Africa in the 2015 Durban ODI against Windies.
52.04 – Marlon Samuels’ batting strike-rate during his 98-ball 51. This is the joint lowest S/R in a 50+ innings by a Windies batsman since the start of 2013. Shai Hope also scored a 51 off 98 against India in the 2017 Kingston ODI. No other Windies player had an S/R less than 60 in a fifty-plus ODI inning in the last five years.
121 – The 121-run partnership between Evin Lewis and Marlon Samuels for the 3rd wicket is Windies’ highest stand when they were bowled out under 200 in the ODI format. They had 107-run partnership during the 1997 Sydney ODI and a 101-run stand in the 2002 Sharjah ODI both when they made 181 against Pakistan.
198 – Windies’ total of 198 in this game is their 3rd lowest in the ODI format against an Associate nation. Kenya dismissed the Caribbean team for just 92 runs in the 1996 CWC game while Afghanistan dismissed them for 149 in the 2017 Gros Islet ODI just before becoming the full member nation.
1999 – For the first time since 1999, Windies won an ODI after losing two of their top three/four batsmen for ducks. The last time they won an ODI after such start was against South Africa in the 1999 East London ODI.
