Iceland Cricket apologizes after poking fun at Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan
Rashid gave away 110 runs against England in Manchester.
There’s no doubt on the fact that Rashid Khan is amongst the leading spinners doing the rounds in world cricket at present. However, the 20-year-old didn’t have the best of days in Afghanistan’s erstwhile match against England at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Rashid was taken to the cleaners as the rampant Three Lions’ batsmen racked up 397 for six in their 50 overs.
He went for as many as 110 runs in his nine overs, thereby becoming the most expensive spinner in the history of ODI cricket. The English batters plundered 25 sixes out of which Rashid conceded 11. He also bowled at the death and the Brits’ batsmen picked the bones out of him.
The home team eventually went on to win the match by 150 runs and moved to the top of the points table. Hashmatullah Shahidi, Asghar Afghan, and Rahmat Shah tried hard, but their efforts went in vain. Thereafter, Rashid somewhat became a butt of jokes on social media. Iceland Cricket also took a sly dig at the Young Turk for his horrendous show versus Eoin Morgan’s men.
Iceland Cricket took to Twitter and wrote, “We’ve just heard that Rashid Khan has scored Afghanistan’s first century of the #CWC19! Wow! 110 from 56 balls. The most runs ever scored by a bowler in the World Cup or something. Well batted young man. #ENGvAFG #AFGvENG,”

However, Rashid’s bashing didn’t gown well with the cricketing fraternity. Englishmen Jofra Archer and Luke Wright, along with New Zealand’s Ish Sodhi and Australia’s Jason Gillespie criticized them for the message. India’s Bishen Singh Bedi was also pretty critical of the tweet. Later, Iceland Cricket made an apology for the tweet. In their message, they also tagged Archer, Sodhi, Wright, and Sodhi.
Apologizing for the previous tweet, Iceland Cricket wrote: “We’re really sorry. Mick Lewis goes for 113 off 60. Stuart Broad goes for 36 off 6. Ben Stokes goes for 24 off 4. Everybody had a laugh at them. We didn’t see this as any different. But evidently, it is. Hands up. We apologize. @JofraArcher @lukewright204 @ish_sodhi @dizzy259,”
