South African captain Temba Bavuma said that there is no panic in the team, following the team’s loss to India in the third T20I of the ongoing series, adding that they lost to a better side on the day. Bavuma also stated that his team played some good cricket in the first two games and that he has to accept when the other teams play well.
South Africa, coming into the third game, were leading the series by 2-0, and were one game away from clinching the series. Bavuma felt that when the team loses, there are a lot of areas that can be pointed out, and opined that he would be foolish to change the team’s approach after one loss.

For the unversed, the Proteas fell short by 48 runs chasing a target of 180 in the third T20I, courtesy of a match-winning spell of three wickets for 20 runs by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. “When the team loses there’s a lot of areas we can point out,” said the South Africa skipper in the press conference after the game in Vizag.
“We know we have to play well, and that’s what we did in the first two games. Today (India) were a much better side,” added the South African opening batter. Notably, India came into the series without some of their star players such as KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. Bavuma reckons that nobody expected the visitors to whitewash India because they did not have their senior players in the team.
“I don’t think you guys were thinking we were going to come here and win the series 5-0 just because all the big name players aren’t here. That’s a good Indian team. I’d be foolish to change our approach after one loss,” said Bavuma. South Africa, on the other hand, also played without some of their regular players such as Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock. “There are no panic stations,” said Bavuma in an audio file released by Cricket South Africa (CSA).
