Cricketers work hard in order to attract the eyebrows of selectors for selection. But, it is a very unlike situation for Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh who had a fracture in his finger due to his own frustration. And now, he is set to miss his spot in the Australian Test squad for the upcoming series.
After going out of favor in Tests for long, he got an opportunity to play the final Ashes Test. In that match, Marsh bowled a heroic spell taking his 1st fifer in the longer format. He also featured in Australia‘s World Cup squad. But, it was his performance in the mega event that ruled him out of the team for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Now, his place looks in danger after getting injured due to his own fault.
Mitchell Marsh’s injury and Justin Langer’s reaction over it
The incident came when he bashed his hand on the dressing room wall out of anger, over the way he got out to Jackson Bird in a Sheffield Shield match. Later in scans, it showed that he has got a fracture in his middle finger. He revealed that his injury will set him on the sidelines for at least five to six weeks. “It’s my middle finger, just below the wrist – a fracture straight through the bone,” Marsh said as quoted by Times Now.
This means that he will not play the opening Test against Pakistan starting on 21st November 2019 in Brisbane. When a question was asked to him about the national coach Justin Langer’s reaction over his injury, Marsh said, “He just told me that I’m an idiot basically.”
Aussie all-rounder feels that it is a good lesson for him, “It’s a good lesson for me. Hopefully, it’s a good lesson for other people as well. At the end of the day, it’s a game of cricket. Sometimes you get beaten, sometimes you get out, and you can’t be punching walls,” he added.
It is expected that Marsh’s error could pave a way for Marcus Stoinis in the upcoming series against Pakistan. The 27-year-old has played in 32 Tests, 53 ODIs and 11 T20Is and has managed to get more than 2,000 international runs across all the formats with more than 80 wickets under his name.
