'If I don't get this right, I won't play any cricket' - Jofra Archer shows concerns over his elbow injury

Jofra Archer’s fitness has been an area of concern for England cricket for quite a while. It has been just two years since Archer’s international debut and the speedster has already missed many important fixtures, all thanks to his injuries. The 26-year-old sustained an elbow injury last year and in 2021, his wound reemerged. He has now undergone elbow surgery and is set to miss few more weeks of the game for the long run.

While England cricket fans would be hoping Archer to make a thumping comeback, the speedster is not so optimistic about his return. The Barbados-born cricketer stated that he’ll not hurry to take the field again as he wants to get rid of the injury once and for all. However, the Rajasthan Royals star also believes that his cricket career would be over if the surgery doesn’t go well.

“The way I am looking at things is that I would rather miss a few weeks of a year so that I have a few more years in my career. I just want to get this injury sorted once and for all and that’s why I’m not looking that far ahead or at dates for a return to action — because if I don’t get this right, I won’t play any cricket. “I am not going to do myself any good by coming back before I’m fully fit, so I will take my time and do what is best for me and my life,” he asserted.

Archer’s statement would be a major shock for England cricket with many important fixtures lined up.  In July-August, the Three Lions will host India in a five-match Test series and the T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place later this year. Hence, Archer’s absence in these fixtures could really dent England’s chances of emerging victorious.

Meanwhile, England’s next assignment is a two-match Test series against New Zealand at home, getting underway on June 2. Apart from Archer, many key players like Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes are resting from the series, and defeating the Kiwis won’t be easy for Joe Root and Co.
