Pakistan and Lahore Qalandar’s pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has opened up on workload concerns. Afridi has been a sensation in Pakistan cricket in the last couple of years, making a mark in all three formats of the game.
The 21-year-old, who has represented the nation in 17 Tests and 25 ODIs and T20Is, has been relentless, participating in every series that Pakistan has embarked upon. In only half a year thus far, Afridi has been a part of 5 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 7 T20Is, leading to workload management questions.
Apart from international cricket, the left-arm pacer is also a part of the Pakistan Super League, and also features in the nation’s domestic tournaments. Given he is a pacer, the amount of cricket he has played in the last couple of years is staggering by every standard.
Recently, Junaid Khan opined that it is Afridi’s insecurity of losing his place to another player in the side to be the reason why he avoids taking breaks. However, breaking his silence on the matter, Afridi chose to clear the air himself during a recent interaction with Cricket Pakistan.
Shaheen Shah Afridi opens up on workload management
The 21-year-old pacer expressed that he is enjoying all three formats and it is his time to play for the country and perform.
“I have said it before that I enjoy all formats of the sport. I really enjoy Test cricket because you are really tested in each session. It is fun and it makes you tough. I enjoy Test cricket a lot,” Shaheen said.
“I think our physio and trainer are managing my workload really well. I think they both know how I should be used. They plan these things with the management. I plan with them before bowling. I think if I feel my workload is getting too much then I would tell them myself if I need rest in any match. I haven’t felt anything like that however and it is my time to play for Pakistan. I feel very happy when I play well for my country,” he added.
