If I get a chance, I want to win matches for my team, says SRH pacer Basil Thampi
He picked only five wickets in four outings last season.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a perfect platform for the youngster to showcase their skills against some of the best in the business. They get a chance to rub the shoulders with the legendary former and current cricketers. Despite not playing much, they learn a lot and the same has happened with Kerala pacer Basil Thampi. He was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad last season as well but didn’t get many chances.
Thampi played only four matches last year but couldn’t perform up to the expectations. He conceded runs at an economy of 11.21 and could pick only five wickets. Though Thampi is not disheartened with those performances. He admits to having learnt from the failures and is keen on doing well this time around.
“This coming season I want to do well. The most important thing is if I get a chance, I want to do well for the team. I want to win matches for the team. From the last experience, I learnt a lot from this team,” he was quoted as saying by Times Now.
I will stick to my main thing
Basil Thampi grabbed the eyeballs when he was with the now-defunct franchise Gujarat Lions. He delivered some pinpoint yorkers to impress many and then was picked by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2018 auction for a decent amount of Rs 95 lakhs in a bidding war. Speaking about his bowling, the 26-year-old was keen to stick to the basics and cleared that the yorker remains a special delivery for him.
“No, I want to stick to my thing. Because I have good yorkers, I guess, and want to stick to it and, with that, some variations. It is very challenging to bowl in the IPL because it is a batsman’s game and we all know that. And we should have the confidence to bowl, that is the key. So in the last three years, I got the confidence to bowl at everyone. Whenever I get the ball, I want to deliver my best,” Thampi further added.
