Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is known as someone who backs youngsters in their tough times and helps them utilize their potential to the fullest. Over the years, he has groomed a number of cricketers under his leadership. Cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and many others have often credited MS for giving them a chance in the Indian team and making them reach where they are today.
Not only for the Indian team, but Dhoni has also played the role of a good leader for his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings too. Recently former Indian cricketer and CSK player Subramaniam Badrinath gave an insight into the role played by MS Dhoni as a leader for his team. Badrinath is a right-handed middle-order batsman who represented India in One Day Internationals and Test matches under the leadership of Dhoni. He also played for Chennai Super Kings under MS for five years.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Badrinath revealed that if MS feels that someone is good, he gives them enough chances to make a mark. Badri added that the Ranchi Starwalt instills confidence in his players that helps them to do better.
“Dhoni always felt that roles are very important, and most of the time, mine was to get the team out of tough situations. My role was there in the middle order. The biggest strength of Dhoni is that he gives players that extra chance. If Dhoni believes Badri is good, that’s it. Badri is there. Once he believes it’s right, he sticks to the process. ‘I will give him chances, let him prove himself.’ Similarly, if he believes you are not good enough, even god cannot help you. He has his own mindset and sticks to it no matter what,” said the former Indian cricketer.
We had MS Dhoni as our Captain: S Badrinath
Badrinath rose to fame during his tenure with Chennai Super Kings. The batsman had more than 1300 runs to his name in the tournament. He often played cameo roles for the team in the middle order taking them to victory with his sound techniques and power hitting.
Talking about the environment of CSK’s dressing room, the 39-year-old added that everyone was treated the same irrespective of their performance and contribution in the victory. Also, the cricketer spoke highly of the camaraderie among the players of the team.
“Irrespective of how we’d performed, the owners treated us the same. Plus, we always had an amazing camaraderie and team environment… our get-togethers, the bosses would always be like ‘we know you’re a champion side’. We had MS Dhoni as our captain so it flowed from the top to Dhoni and to the team,” Badrinath said.
