Former Indian batsman and expert commentator Aakash Chopra is known for giving expert opinion on various matters of cricket making rounds in the world. On his YouTube channel, he keeps popping now and then to enlighten fans about several cricketing topics.
Chopra now believes that the Mumbai Indians skipper has the potential to produce 500 runs in the upcoming edition of IPL if he takes the opportunity to open the batting order. Sharma would be Mumbai’s most dependable player to lead the team both while chasing and posting targets.
Though 33- year-old didn’t have a thunderous IPL season for long now on a personal level, he has been happy enough to lead the franchise to multiple IPL trophies. If he starts attacking bowlers at his very best, he has the potential to cause destruction. The commentator added that if Sharma starts flaunting his batting skills, nobody can stop Mumbai from landing into playoffs.
“I am going for Rohit Sharma to be Mumbai Indians’ tournament protector. Because if Rohit Sharma opens the batting for MI, I have no doubt that he will do well. If he scores around 500 runs in IPL 2020, he can surely perform the role of tournament protector to perfection,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Injury to Rohit Sharma can be a big threat: Aakash Chopra
The former KKR player added that MI lifted the trophy last time, and five of their players scored over 400 runs, and the same form will be needed this year too. For now, there are not any threats to the Mumbai squad, but any injury to in-form Rohit Sharma can be the cause of great concern for them. Sharma is Mumbai’s Talisman, and they literally have no one of that stature to replace him in any condition.
“From an individual’s perspective, I feel an injury to Rohit Sharma will be a real threat for the Mumbai Indians. Because there is no one around him who has a bank of runs. Chris Lynn’s form will also be a threat.”
Chopra also threw light on the dismal performance of Chris Lynn in the CPL 2020. Though he was supposedly thought of as an added benefit to the team, his current form tells a different story.
