Lahore Qalandars started PSL 2020 with three consecutive defeats. However, they went on to win their fourth game but again lost the fifth game by a huge margin. The former Pakistani cricketer Tanvir Ahmed commented that Fawad Rana, the owner of Lahore Qalandars might be willing to sell the team.

Although the team is filled with some good domestic talent and star overseas players they have not been able to stick together as a team and win games. In the recent clash against Islamabad United, they failed miserably to chase the target. That game recorded the highest margin victory for any team in PSL history (by 71runs).

Lahore Qalandars team’s ability in question

Over the years, the presence of AB de Villiers, Chris Lynn, Shaheen Afridi, and Sandeep Lamichhane indicates that Lahore Qalandars certainly do not lack the squad strength to beat any team in the league. But the team has been dynamically changing the squad and their captain. This is a sign of instability and a lack of trust in players.

Tanvir Ahmed lashed out at players for not showcasing on the big stage and went on to say that if things don’t change for the franchise, then the owner Fawad Rana might look out options for selling the team to someone else, “If things don’t change, Fawad Rana might sell his franchise to someone else. The franchise spends a lot of money every year and conducts nation-wide talent hunt trials but the team disappoints on the field every season,” said Ahmed while speaking in a YouTube video. “What’s the point of trials if the team does not perform?”

He also criticized the decision of replacing Fakhar Zaman with Salman Butt as the opener. Zaman wasn’t in the greatest of the form but he said it was not a smart move to leave him out of action. His ability to strike hard in the powerplay is one of his strengths. Whereas Salman takes more time to get going.

“Salman Butt is not a T20 specialist and it made no sense to include him in the playing XI at the expense of Fakhar Zaman,” he said. “They were doing pretty well in the powerplay overs, even if Zaman was not performing, so it was wrong to change the opener.”

Looking ahead into the tournament

The team possesses the best resources but has failed to capitalize and come on top of the league. whether it is the fault of the think tank or the team’s inability to execute their plans, they have found themselves at the bottom of the points table.

There are quite a few games left in the season. Lahore Qalandars and their owner Fawad Rana would hope that they can turn it out around and perform.
