‘If you ask me, we'll win’ - Babar Azam confident ahead of India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Match
Pakistan have never defeated India in a World Cup match.
With the T20 World Cup 2021 being just around the corner, all the teams would be busy finalizing their plans and strategies. The gala competition gets underway on October 17 with matches taking place in Oman. While several exciting clashes are in the pipeline, the clash between India and Pakistan has to be the most awaited. The two arch-rivals will cross swords at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 24.
Owing to the political tension between the two nations, India and Pakistan have only been meeting in multi-team events since a while. Although Pakistan dominate the overall head-to-head record between the two sides in international cricket, they couldn’t defeat India once in World Cup events. So far, the two sides have met in 12 World Cup matches so far – 7 in ODIs, 5 in T20Is – and the Men in Blue emerged winners every single time.
Hence, the current Pakistan team has the challenge to defy history and defeat the Indian team. Skipper Babar Azam seems confident ahead of the high-voltage clash as the Pakistan team is well-versed with UAE conditions. The talismanic batter even said that his team can end the unbeaten streak this time around.
We know the UAE conditions really well: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam
“We’ve been playing cricket in UAE for the past 3-4 years and we know the conditions really well. We know how the wicket will behave and the adjustments batters will have to make. On the day who plays the better cricket, wins the match. If you ask me, we will win,” Azam was quoted as saying by the ICC.
Notably, Azam, the second-ranked T20 batter, is set to play his first T20 World Cup and will make his debut as captain. Moreover, India and Pakistan will be meeting in their respective opening matches of the tournament. Hence, it would be a test of nerves and character in Dubai. Azam is also aware of the same.
“We know the pressure and the high intensity of each game, especially the first one. Hopefully, we can win the match and carry the momentum forward. As a team, our confidence and morale are really high. We are not thinking of the past but the future. We are preparing for that. I am fully confident that we are well prepared and will play good cricket on the day,” the 26-year-old added.
