I'll leave that to Jos' - David Warner after missing out on a hundred against SRH
Warner missed out on his ton due to lack of strike in the last few overs but scored 92* off 58 deliveries.
David Warner made it clear that he didn’t need extra motivation to perform against his previous team Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 50 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. It was for everyone to see the way SRH axed him from captaincy and later dropped him from the playing XI in IPL 2021. However, the left-hander enjoyed batting against his former team, smashing an unbeaten 92 off 58 deliveries.
He had a chance, to get to a well-deserved century, but the man couldn’t do it as he didn’t get much strike in the last two overs of the innings. Moreover, he also asked his partner Rovman Powell to look to hit big shots and not to worry about his three-figure milestone. Speaking after the match, when asked about not scoring a ton, Warner hilariously stated that, he has left to Jos Buttler to do the job, who has been piling up runs and tons at will while playing for Rajasthan Royals this season.
Meanwhile, Warner also reckoned that his daughters would hopefully be happy that he has scored runs. They had questioned him for not smashing tons like Buttler has been doing in the season. “Hopefully they (his kids) are still asleep but I think they might be happy. But I still didn’t get a hundred! Jeebiess, that’s right! I’ll leave that (the hundreds) to Jos,” Warner said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
You got to try to innovative shots, says Warner
During his innings, David Warner played shots at will taking on the opposition bowlers. He also took on his former teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar playing a switch-hit leaving everyone in awe. Talking of the shot, the southpaw stated that as a batter one has to play innovative shots in T20 cricket and also revealed that he bats right-handed in the nets while facing the spinners.
“I thought he (Bhuvi) was going to bowl a yorker, it was wider. As I tried to turn, I actually saw Jos play one recently, so I practiced that in the nets. I bat right-handed in the nets against the spinners sometimes. You got to try these shots. I premeditated to try and reverse it, but when it was bowled there, I just tried to back-cut it and it came off,” he added.
