The Indian side emerged victorious in the recently concluded ODI series against the Sri Lankan side. In spite of missing some of its prominent players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant, the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian side managed to beat Sri Lanka by a margin of 2-1.
Next up, Shikhar Dhawan and his boys will be up against the Sri Lankan side in a three-match T20I series. And, ahead of the T20I series, veteran batsman Shikhar Dhawan wants to make his case stronger and grab the opener’s slot in the Indian batting lineup for the T20 World Cup that will be held this year.
Terming the T20I series as an important one, Dhawan stated that every international match has its own impact. The left-hander also added that he is looking forward to performing well against the Sri Lankan outfit in the T20I series.
“It is very important. Of course, any international match has its own impact, and whenever you perform internationally it makes a huge impact. So, on a personal note, I’m really looking forward to perform over here and make my place stronger for World Cup contendership. Then we’ll see how it goes in the future,” said Dhawan during the virtual press conference ahead of the three-match T20I series against the Sri Lankan outfit.
Shikhar Dhawan was in excellent form during the 14th edition of the IPL
Shikhar Dhawan was in scintillating form in the 14th edition of the IPL. At the time of suspension of the tournament, the Delhi Capitals’ batsman had scored a whopping 380 runs in just 8 innings at an average of 54.29 and was the proud owner of the Orange Cap as well.
Dhawan’s exploits at the top of the order with the willow played a crucial role in the Delhi Capitals (DC) occupying the top place in the points table. Dhawan will look to once again continue with his good run of form when the IPL resumes in September this year. It is also to be noted that the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka will be India’s last international T20I series before the T20 World Cup this year.
