BCCI President Sourav Ganguly spoke about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s current form in the IPL and said that he is confident that the two will be back soon. Both of them are the key players and the backbone of the Indian team, however, their rough patch at the IPL 2022 has been worrisome.

India will be playing the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia after a dismal run last year at the event, and the expectation from the side has increased as everyone wishes for their strong comeback. But Kohli and Rohit have not been successful for their respective  IPL franchises in their past few games and thus their performance has been a matter of concern.

“I’m not worried at all about the form of Rohit or Virat. They are too good…real big players. The World Cup is far away and I am quite confident that they will be in top shape much before the tournament,” Ganguly told Mid-Day.

Kohli has 236 runs at 19.67 with a strike rate of 113.46 in 13 games this season. He has only one half-century and three golden duck dismissals to his name. Kohli’s numbers have never been so low except for the first season of the IPL. Hiss decision of stepping down from the captaincy to reduce the burden has also has not worked.

Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, has 218 runs in 12 games at an average of 18.17 and a strike rate of 125.29. The Indian all-format skipper has not been able to hit a single half-century this season and has accounted for five single-digit scores apart from one duck. The five-time winning captain could not lead the side to a big season this time, and as a result, became the first team to be knocked out of the race.

India has a long schedule ahead of the T20 World Cup

India has a long schedule before the commencement of the World Cup. Apart from the Test and ODI series, India will be involved in four T20I series. The first series is scheduled against the South African side in June, followed by India’s tour of Ireland. The team will then move to England for their next assignment and fly to the Caribbean after the conclusion of the England series.
