Chris Gayle is 39 years old and is at the fag end of his cricketing career. He may not be the most consistent batsmen going around at this point in time, but he still remains as an entertainer, both on and off the field. The Jamaican cricketer is set to play the five-match ODI series against Eoin Morgan’s England that is set to get underway on Wednesday, February 20 at the Bridgetown in Barbados.

He last played for the Windies in the home series against Bangladesh back in July and then backed out of the series against India back in October last year. Recently, the hulk-like Jamaican announced that the 2019 edition of the World Cup would be his last in the One Day format. Moreover, the southpaw remarked that he would be carrying the tag of ‘Universal Boss’ to his grave.

I’ll let the youngsters have some fun

“You’re looking at a great man. I’m the greatest player in the world. Of course, I’m still the Universe Boss. That will never change. I’ll take that to the grave. I’m looking to draw the line after the World Cup. Or should I say cut the string?

Definitely, in 50-over cricket, the World Cup is the end for me. I’ll let the youngsters have some fun and I can sit back in the party stand and watch them have some fun,” Gayle was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz.

Gayle also played World Cup in Zimbabwe last year where the Windies lost to Afghanistan in the final, but qualified for the mega event, which is scheduled to start on Thursday, May 30. Windies will play their first match against Pakistan on Friday, May 31 at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Gayle’s last cricketing assignment was in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) where he played for Rangpur Riders.
