I’m sure Mayank Agarwal will get his recognition: MSK Prasad

Mayank Agarwal, despite performing exceedingly well across all formats, couldn’t find a place in India’s 16-man squad for the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was stupendous for India ‘A’ in the quadrangular series having scored 236 runs in four matches at a superlative average of 59. His top score of 124 came against India ‘B’ in Alur.    

Prior to that, he played first-class and List A matches against South Africa ‘A’, England Lions and Windies ‘A’, and didn’t flatter to deceive by any stretch of the imagination. The Karnataka-born batsman also didn’t find a place in India’s squad for the fourth and fifth Test against England even after scoring a double-century against South Africa ‘A’ in Bangalore.

We will definitely look at him

In the meantime, MSK Prasad, the chief selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, praised the batsman for the performances he has dished out in the last one year. “Mayank has been fantastic and has been performing consistently in the last the last 10-12 months time,” he was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

Prasad also mentioned that Agarwal will be duly rewarded in the future. “He is just a step way and I’m sure in due course I’m sure he will get his recognition. He did well in all three formats in whatever opportunities he got in domestic cricket and for India A. We will definitely look at him when we rest some of those senior cricketers,” he added.

The 27-year-old notched 2141 runs in the previous domestic season to put himself in contention for an India selection. However, he was ignored for the South Africa tour followed by the English tour and now the Asia Cup. In December, India will play two Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is against the Windies and Mayank would be keen to make the cut for the series.
