I'm training keeping my World Cup dream in mind, says Khaleel Ahmed
Khaleel was dropped after Australia and New Zealand tour following mediocre performances.
The 21-year-old Khaleel Ahmed believes that it takes a huge amount of toil and dedication to leave a mark in international cricket and at this level he can only achieve it via his services to the Men in Blue. There’s no doubt to the fact there’s no better way in Cricket than the World Cup to leave an impression forever. After all, the big event only comes once in four years and for some, it can become the opportunity of a lifetime.
Same goes for the left-arm seamer from Rajasthan who is well aware of the whimsical nature and the uncertainty around Cricket. Even though captain Virat Kohli has made it clear that the IPL will not be a metric for selection of the World Cup squad, the tall and lean Khaleel Ahmed is ready to put in his best for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming IPL 2019 campaign.
Khaleel, who made his debut during the Asia Cup in September 2018, believes he still has a chance to make it to the World Cup squad as a few spots still remain vacant. “Cricket is a sport flush with possibilities and I still feel my World Cup chances are very much there and if I perform well for Sunrisers Hyderabad, you never know,” Khaleel said according to the Times of India.
The young all-rounder’s outing in Australia and New Zealand wasn’t remarkable but he believes that the tours have added to his experience in international cricket. Playing against the two teams has helped him discern the right approach and taught him how to adapt in various situations and now he also has an idea as to what variations will work across different wickets.
Khaleel ready to beat the IPL pressure
From the time he made his debut in the Asia Cup, Khaleel Ahmed has been aware that in the Virat Kohli-led Indian team there is no place for mediocrity. “I am training keeping my WC dreams in mind. I am working hard on both my bowling and fielding. When a player of his stature feels that I’m worthy enough to represent the country in an event as big as the World Cup, it gives me extra motivation to work hard, ” he added.
“I am not competing with anyone and my focus is entirely on how I can do well. Yes, it is a challenge for the bowlers to come out on top during high-pressure IPL games and particularly in death overs on a flat track and I am ready for the contest,” the determined Khaleel signed off.
