Pakistan’s all-rounder Imad Wasim has maintained his stance of siding with Mr Salman Iqbal’s decision of boycotting the T10 League to be played in the UAE. Imad hailed the efforts of the founder and CEO of ARY Digital Network Mr Salman Iqbal for promoting cricket in the country. He reiterated that he would not change his decision of staying clear of the second edition of the star-studded event which will be held in Sharjah later this year.
The T10 league, which is approved by the Emirates Cricket Board as well as the International Cricket Council (ICC), has been internationally recognized as the first-ever ten-over league. 2017 saw the inaugural edition of the tournament, which was a runaway success. The second season will see bigger names getting involved – Chris Gayle was the first player to be snapped up in the draft ahead of the upcoming edition of the tournament.
However, the T10 League has seen its fair share of controversy. Earlier, Mr Salman Iqbal had resigned from the post of T10 League’s presidency citing lack of transparency, professionalism and proper structure in the league.
While talking to ARY News in Abu Dhabi ahead of Pakistan’s first T20I against Australia, the all-rounder said, “He [Mr Salman Iqbal] has always done a lot for Pakistan cricket. If he feels like there is something going on then obviously as a cricketer, as a player I have to back him.”
Proud to stand by Mr Salman Iqbal
“He is a Pakistani veteran in cricket. People do not forget him and about his services for Pakistan. It was obviously my decision to stand by him and I am proud,” Imad added.
The all-rounder went on to add that he is proud of the decision of backing off from playing in the ‘dubious’ ten over-league, which takes place in the UAE.
In the meantime, as many as 8 former international cricketers from India will be taking part in the second edition of the league, with former India pacer Zaheer Khan being the latest addition to the mega-event. Former India opener Sehwag was named as the T10 Cricket League brand icon along with other big names such as Pakistan veteran Shahid Afridi and former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum.
The inaugural season of the tournament was won by Kerala Kings. This edition will see two new teams being added to the tournament, in form of the Karachians and the Northern Warriors.
