Imam-ul-Haq doesn’t have a whole lot of experience, representing Pakistan at the international level. The southpaw has only played 24 ODIs in which he has notched 1153 runs at an impressive average of 54.90. Furthermore, in a short career, the left-handed batsman from Lahore, Punjab has already notched five centuries and as many half-centuries under his belt.

The youngster, who’s also the nephew of chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, started his international career with a century on debut against Sri Lanka in October 2017 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and ever since he hasn’t looked back. Meanwhile, the 23-year-old believes that he has churned out performances good enough to get him into the World Cup squad.

He said that bearing in mind his numbers in ODIs, he was pretty much an automatic selection for the mega event in England and Wales, starting Thursday, May 30. “My average is 55 in ODIs and that answers your question. I was an automatic selection for the World Cup,” Imam was quoted as saying in Urdu Point. Pakistan will play their first game against the Windies.

Imam’s recent cricketing assignment

Imam was recently a part of the ODI series against Australia, where he ended up with 63 runs in three games with his top score of 46 coming in the final ODI in Abu Dhabi. Prior to that, he played in the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the Darren Sammy-captained Peshawar Zalmi.

In that tournament, which was also his first, Imam racked up 341 runs in 12 matches at an average of 28.41 with four half-centuries. His top score of 59 came against the Karachi Kings at the National Stadium in Karachi. Imam’s next international assignment would be the limited-overs series against England, starting Sunday, May 5 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
