Imran Khan believes the current Pakistani side can become a super power
Talking about the administration of cricket in Pakistan, Imran Khan rued the fact that there lies corruption in the grass roots of Pakistan cricket.
Former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan has been very vocal about his opinions on the current affairs and the national side. He recently lauded the efforts of the Pakistani cricket team for having won the ICC Champions Trophy. Team Pakistan thumped India in the finals of the event to register the title win. Earlier in the tournament, they had lost to the same Indian team in the league stages.
Imran had then lamented over the lack of intent shown by Pakistani players. Now, as per the recent quotes in the New Indian Express, he seems to be a happy man. He cited that the current Pakistani team has the potential of becoming a super power in the world of cricket. He went on to add that it is the lack of proper administration that spoils the young talent in the country. They have been producing stars but have failed to polish them.
“Our team was a super power in world cricket than. But this team has the potential to be even better than a super power. The problem is that we don’t have the system to polish this young and raw talent properly and professionally. Yet it keeps coming through,” Imran Khan quoted.
“It was an amazing turnaround from these boys. Congratulations to them.”
On plight of other sports in Pakistan
He further spoke about the other sports in the country. Imran lamented the fact that the country has failed to do well in other sports. Pakistan lost to India 7-1 in a recent world event in Hockey. He cited that there was a time when the hockey team and the squash players used to be so effective in Pakistan. But all of that seems to be a far cry now.
“At one time I remember our hockey team and squash players won world titles regularly and were unbeatable. Today we are struggling in both sports. We don’t have even a single proper representation to win medals in the Olympics,” quoted the former cricketer.
On cricket administration
Talking about the administration of cricket in Pakistan, Imran Khan rued the fact that there lies corruption in the grass roots of Pakistan cricket. The supreme powers of the government appoint the head of the cricket board which is very peculiar. He cited that the same is not the case with other cricket boards.
“When you have such a system, then you will automatically have politics in cricket and that is our problem now. We still do well because of the immense raw talent we have at home. We have champions in corruption who are very good at taking money out of the country,” he conceded.
