Imran Khan compares Virat Kohli with Sachin Tendulkar: Ramiz Raja
Imran's congratulatory message for Team India has won many hearts.
Pakistan Prime Minister and former cricketer Imran Khan has been kind enough to congratulate Team India for winning the Test series in Australia. He has won many hearts with his tweet for Virat Kohli and Co. which consisted of a congratulatory message for them and also pointed out that it is the first series victory for an Asian team down under. However, dissecting that message Ramiz Raja has revealed that during Imran’s oath ceremony he had compared Kohli to Sachin Tendulkar.
Imran Khan won the general elections in Pakistan last year and was crowned the PM of the country. His oath-taking ceremony was a huge event as Navjot Singh Sidhu also attended it after gleefully accepting the invitation. Recalling the same, Ramiz stated that Imran, before everything, is a sportsman at heart and follows it thoroughly even now.
The cricketer-turned-commentator also went on to say that Imran compared Virat to Sachin for the way he has performed for India in his already illustrious career.
He has held Kohli in high regard
“I can relate this to something I had personal experience of. We were invited over for his oath-taking ceremony. Obviously, it was a kind of cricket meeting with 10-12 of us. One of the first few things he said was comparing Virat Kohli to Sachin Tendulkar. That was quite interesting,” Ramiz Raja said while speaking to the Times of India.
Ramiz also went on say that Kohli’s hunger to score runs and win games for his country has impressed Imran Khan the most and also added that the congratulatory tweet was from the common man in him and not the politician.
“Obviously, it meant he follows the game, follows the players, and he has held Kohli in high regard for his approach to the game and how he has featured so strongly for India. He is a batsman who gets the runs when India need them the most. That’s what has impressed Imran about Kohli.
“The other important point is that he is a sportsman at heart. He thinks like a common man, he is not a typical politician. He is seen in Pakistan more as a reformist and in that tweet, a sportsman was speaking,” Ramiz added who is currently in South Africa to cover the ongoing Test series.
