'In prep for next year!' - Chris Gayle sweats it out in the gym to play IPL 2023

Chris Gayle is one the most destructive as well as entertaining batters to have played the game at the highest level. Apart from playing many handy knocks for the West Indies, he has also succeeded in making a tremendous impact in franchise cricket across the globe, including the IPL. It is to be noted that the southpaw’s blistering unbeaten 175 against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in the 2013 edition remains the highest individual score in tournament history to date.

Gayle will be turning 43 later this year but, the ‘Universe Boss’ is not showing any signs of slowing down and wishes to make a comeback to the IPL in 2023. At the same time, the Caribbean all-rounder is also working hard and not compromising on his fitness levels in order to make himself available for the next edition of the marquee tournament.

Chris Gayle puts fans on notice with his intense workout

Chris Gayle, on Monday (March 28) evening, posted a series of videos on his Instagram story where he can be seen sweating it out in the gym with an intense workout session where he supposedly seems to have kept a personal trainer. The first story post is captioned as, “Work just start!! Let’s go. In prep for IPL next year!”

Chris Gayle has represented three franchises in the IPL since his debut in 2009 including the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the Punjab Kings. He had a poor outing last season as he could only manage 193 runs from 10 matches at an average of 21.44 and a strike rate of 125.32, and was released by the PBKS months ahead of the 2022 mega auction.

In January this year, the two-time T20 World Cup winner shocked the world by making himself unavailable for IPL 2022 as he personally decided to opt out from the tournament. Many thought he won’t be playing in the IPL again, but the man is looking to come back with a bang next year.

Meanwhile, it must also be noted that the ‘Universe Boss’ is the seventh-highest run-getter in IPL history having amassed 4965 runs from 142 appearances averaging 39.72 and a strike rate of 148.96 including six centuries which is the most by a batter in the history of the competition.
