Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka owing to signs of concussion. The opener was struck on the head while batting in the second T20I in Dharamshala. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement informing that the 23-year-old being taken to the hospital post the match on Saturday night for a CT scan and said they will continue to monitor his health.

Kishan was struck on the helmet by a bouncer bowled in the fourth over of the Indian innings by Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara. The batter was late on an attempted pull shot and had to be looked at by the physios immediately as per the concussion protocols after he took the blow on his head. However, he resumed his innings afterwards and was eventually dismissed after scoring 16 runs in 15 balls.

“Accompanied by a team doctor, he was taken to a local hospital last night for a check-up where a CT scan was conducted. The findings of the CT scan are normal,” BCCI said in its media statement.

“The BCCI Medical Team will continue to closely monitor his signs of concussion. Ishan is ruled out of the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka,” it added.

Sri Lankan cricketer, Dinesh Chandimal, was another player apart from Kishan who had to pay a visit to the hospital due to a broken thumb. Meanwhile, India lead the series 2-0 with the final game to go.

Kishan has been in good form so far in the series. The southpaw was instrumental in India’s victory in the first T20I, having scored 89 off 56 balls with 10 fours and three sixes. He was also the Player of the Match in that game. The Patna born cricketer is being seen as an important member of India’s batting set-up in their build-up towards the T20 World Cup at the end of this year.
