Preview

The back and forth battle between India and England continued in the third match as the visitors edged past the hosts. Having sent into bat, India’s run of poor starts continued as the top order failed to give them a good start for the second time in the series.

However, captain Virat Kohli was the only batsman who seemed to find some form. He continued from where he left in the second match and scored another fifty. His 46 ball-77 helped India recover from 100 for 5 in 16 overs to get to 156-6. India would desperately want him to march on ahead with another substantial score in the fourth match.

As far as the bowling is concerned, there aren’t too much to be said as one can argue that it was the counter-attacking start from Jos Buttler, which put India on the back-foot. Skipper Kohli would want his bowlers to fire back and pick early wickets. Without early wickets, Buttler could be seen repeating his act from Tuesday night when he smashed 83 runs from 52 balls to help England cruise to victory.

As far as Eoin Morgan and co. is concerned, they have had two perfect matches in this series. However, they will be aware of the fact that India will come back hard on them as the series will be on the line for them. With the series at 2-1, the hosts would hope that Kohli’s jigsaw puzzle finds its correct pieces and help them in levelling the series.

Captaincy picks:

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was under tremendous pressure coming into the second game. But his match-winning knock in that match has helped him gain the right level of confidence. And great players like him need just a little motivation to raise above all. After his unbeaten 49-ball 73, Kohli scored another fifty. Towards the death overs, he accelerated and ended with a 46-ball 77, staying unbeaten once again.

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler’s promotion to open the batting has been the most crucial aspect in England becoming a strong contender to take home the T20 World Cup later this year. His match-winning knock of 83 from 52 balls was another exhibition of how his role of an aggressor relaxes the other England batsmen and makes them bat around him.
