Virat Kohli made a handsome return to Test cricket as India, on Monday, December 6, defeated New Zealand by 372 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. Kohli didn’t play the opening Test at Green Park in Kanpur after his hectic campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021. The hosts won the game in the first session of the fourth day’s play, picking up five wickets in pretty quick succession.

On Day four, the Black Caps needed 400 runs to win, but their lower order batters couldn’t show much of a fight. Henry Nicholls scored in the 40s, but his efforts were never going to be enough for the visiting team to win. In the meantime, the 33-year-old Kohli was seen in a jolly mood.

When the veteran was fielding in the slip cordon, the crowd at the venue requested him to dance. The Delhi-born Virat didn’t let his fans down and showed his dance moves pretty efficiently. The crowd was ecstatic to see him as well.

You want individuals to step up and guys did that, says Virat Kohli

After India’s win, Virat lauded the team for putting in a clinical performance at the iconic venue in Mumbai. He also talked about how the hosts went back to the drawing after not being able to secure a win in Kanpur. Moreover, he lauded the team management for lending their support throughout.

“To come back with a win is a great feeling, returning as the captain it was a clinical performance, something we’ve seen time and again. You want individuals to step up and guys did that. Even the first Test match was good, this was better. We discussed areas we could improve on; it was also a case of the opposition playing out a good draw and pitch not assisting the bowlers on day five like you expect it to,” Kohli said.

“Here the pitch had a bit more, were able to create more pressure, also because there was more pace and bounce. All in all, the pitch at Wankhede provided the opportunity to play good cricket all around. We all are serving Indian cricket, the previous management did a terrific job, now with Rahul bhai coming in, the mindset is the same,” he added.
