The ongoing second Test match between India and Sri Lanka has seen Virat Kohli getting massive support from the Bengaluru crowd. After all, the right-handed batter is playing at his adopted home amid his association with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since the inception of IPL in 2008. While numerous fans showered love on Kohli from stands at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, three of them managed to invade the pitch and went near the players.

The incident occurred towards the end of play on Day 2. Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis was taking treatment after being hit by a Mohammed Shami delivery in the sixth over. Sensing the opportunity, three fans managed to fox the security officials and ran towards the players. One of them even managed to get close to Kohli, who was standing in slip area.

Security concern is an issue: Jasprit Bumrah

The fan took his mobile out and asked the 33-year-old for a selfie. Kohli obliged and posed for the picture. The security personnel rushed towards the players and eventually managed to get control of the invaders. Speaking of minor security breach, star pacer and Team India vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah did not make a huge fuss about the incident but admitted that security indeed is an issue.

“That is something we don’t control, obviously the security concern is an issue. Suddenly, we realised that there were intruders but thankfully the officials intervened,” Bumrah said in a virtual press conference. “We don’t know what to say about that, the craze of the game is very high and the fans get emotional sometimes,” he added.

Meanwhile, India have tightened their grip over the ongoing contest and their victory is all but on the cards. At the end of Day 2, Sri Lanka were 28/1 in a chase of 447. The track has a lot to offer for the bowlers and the Lankan Lions need to script history to put up a fight in the contest.
