IND vs SL: Shreyas Iyer reaches half-century with an out-of-the-park six
Shreyas Iyer walked into bat when India was reeling at 86 for 4.
Indian batter Shreyas Iyer reached his half-century mark with a colossal six that went out of the stadium and the former could not stop laughing in Bengaluru in the second Test. The right-hander has been in superlative form since the ODI series where he finished as the player of the series and he missed out on an opportunity in the first Test to play a big knock.
However, he made up for it with an important fifty in the pink ball Test when India needed quick runs under their belt. India was in a spot of bother when Iyer came into the crease at 86/4 and Rishabh Pant was the first to take charge against the Sri Lankan bowling attack with a 26-ball 39. Once the latter perished, Iyer took on the role and was quite ready to pounce any loose delivery.
Iyer has always been rated as one of the best players of spin in the country and likes to use his feet against the spinners. He looked aggressive on the first day with a lot of backfoot cuts and pulls whenever the bowlers missed the length and the batter kept transferring the pressure on the inexperienced Sri Lankan spin duo of Lasith Embuldeniya and Praveen Jayawickrama. Batting on 44, Iyer picked the length and came down the track to hit a massive one that went out of the Chinnaswamy stadium.

Having won the toss and chose to bat, skipper Rohit Sharma came out to bat alongside his partner Mayank Agarwal and a mix up between the duo cost the wicket of Agarwal for just four runs. Rohit did not last long as he was caught in the slips by a turning delivery from Embuldeniya for just 15 runs, while Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli joined hands. The pair added 47 for the third wicket as the wicket started to grip and turn for the spinners a lot.
Vihari was dismissed after an 81-ball 31, while Kohli’s wait for his 71st international century continued as he was struck lbw from a ball that kept really low.
