Sri Lanka pacer Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the second Test against India. It is set to be a day-night affair with pink ball at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from March 12. Chameera didn’t play in the opening Test match that was played in Mohali. Sri Lanka are already 0-1 down in the series having lost the first game by a whopping margin of an innings and 222 runs.
As for Chameera, it has been reported that his workload is being managed with a lot of cricket set to be played in the near future. He is also the part of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is set to commence on March 26. He will be playing for the Lucknow Super Giants after the franchise bought him for INR 2 crore.
According to the reports in The Island, Sri Lanka team has been advised by the medical panel to manage Dushmantha Chameera’s workload. It has also been suggested that Chameera should play only white-ball cricket until the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year in Australia. A 50-over World Cup is also set to be played next year in India.
It is still unknown whether the pace bowler was in contention to play the day-night Test in Bangalore but it seems unlikely that he will play any red-ball cricket at least for the next few months.
Confirmation from Sri Lanka that Dushmantha Chameera will not take part in second Test. The team has been advised by the medical panel to manage him and play him only in white ball cricket until the World Cup. Sense that’s the end of his Test career.

Sri Lanka already fretting over Nissanka’s fitness
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Sri Lanka batter Pathum Nissanka is struggling with his back issues ahead of the second and final Test against India. The 23-year-old was the only positive for the Islanders in the Mohali Test where he scored an unbeaten 61 in the first innings. In case, he is ruled out of the Test match, Sri Lanka only have Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis as replacements in the squad and it remains to be seen who gets the nod.
