Team India will be hosting the West Indies in limited-overs series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is starting February 6. While all three One Day Internationals will be held at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata would be hosting the final leg of the white-ball bilateral series i.e. the T20Is.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that spectators would be allowed inside the Eden Gardens to watch all three T20I games and the historic stadium is set to have 75% attendance for the shortest format. This has been officially confirmed by the West Bengal government and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President has also come forward and acknowledged.
“All indoor and outdoor sports activities will be allowed with 75 percent of the capacity of the venue,” the West Bengal government official said on Monday as quoted by India Today.
We feel that it will give a fresh lease of life to the sportspersons of the state, says CAB President
Thanking Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, chief secretary and Government of West Bengal for allowing 75% of the spectators inside the stadiums, CAB President Avishek Dalmiya hoped that the initiative taken by the state government will give a fresh lease of life to the sportspersons of the state.
“We are thankful to the honorable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, chief secretary and Government of West Bengal for announcing the resumption of sporting activities as well as for allowing 75 percent of the capacity of spectators back to the stadium,” said Avishek Dalmiya.
“We feel that it will give a fresh lease of life to the sportspersons of the state. After the New Zealand T20I last year, this time too, CAB is confident that it will be able to successfully host the three T20Is against the West Indies in a similar manner”, he added.
After a forgettable tour of South Africa, the Indian team would be hoping to rediscover their rhythm in the home series against the Windies who would be upbeat after defeating a strong England team in the recently-concluded home T20I series. After missing the South Africa series, Rohit Sharma will be back in action to lead the Men In Blue. The ODI series will be played on February 6,9, and, 11 while the three T20Is will be played on 16,18, and, 20 respectively.
