IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma's magnificent six leaves Kieron Pollard frustrated

Hardly anything went West Indies’ way in the ongoing first ODI against India. Batting first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the vistors suffered a horrendous batting collapse and got skittled out for a paltry 176. The score would been even lesser, had former skipper Jason Holder and Fabian Allen not played valiant knocks lower down the order.

Meanwhile, spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Washinton Sundar shared seven wickets between them as the track seemed to offer a lot of assistance to the bowlers. However, that wasn’t the case when India came out to chase the paltry target. Opener Rohit Sharma, standing in his maiden ODI assignment as skipper, went after bowlers from the outset and played some delightful shots all over the park.

During the course of his fiery half-century, Rohit even played his trademark pull shot to earn maximum runs. It was the penultimate bowl of the 10th over and Kemar Roach had the ball in hand. He went for a short delivery and the dasher had no problem in depositing the ball over the stands. Rohit’s counterpart and Mumbai Indians teammate Kieron Pollard looked completely clueless as the 34-year-old was taking the game away from his side.

Meanwhile, Alzarri Joseph did manage to take Rohit’s wicket but not before the latter scored 60 off just 51 deliveries. He added 84 runs alongside Ishan Kishan for the first wicket, putting his side in a commanding position. It must be noted that the ongoing game is India’s 1000th appearance in ODI cricket.

India became the first team to get the feat and they would like to make the occasion even more special with an emphatic win, which is on the cards. Speaking of how West Indies’ innings panned out, the Men in Maroon looked completely down and out after losing seven wickets inside 80 runs.

However, Holder joined forces with Allen and they added 78 runs for the eighth wicket. The former even went on to score an impressive half-century and West Indies managed 176. Chahal was the pick of the Indian bowlers, scalping a four-wicket haul.
