The Indian women’s team is just at the doorstep of rewriting history having successfully qualified for the finals of the T20 cricket competition of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. They overcame a strong England side in the first semifinal by four runs to deservingly earn a place in the Gold Medal match.

Standing in their way are world-beaters Australia who have been unconquerable in the knockout games in the last few years. They are currently the T20 as well as the ODI World Cup holders and have a tactical captain in Meg Lanning who knows how to marshal her troops in big matches. Moreover, the Australians have been unbeaten in this competition so far and had also handed India a three-wicket defeat in the group stages.

India’s temperament will be tested against the mighty Aussies and they would be expected to sustain pressure in order to finish on top of the podium with a gold medal. At the same time, it is to be noted that the Indian eves had suffered an 85-run defeat in the final of the WT20 2020 at the iconic MCG.

Australia qualified for the Gold Medal match after a five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the second semifinal on August 6 to set up a high-octane clash against a spirited Indian team at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday, August 7. Their batting might have been tested by the Kiwi bowlers chasing a manageable 145, but still, the Aussies held their nerves and made easy work of yet another knockout fixture.
