The 4th unofficial ODI showed how tough a challenge India A is for the England Lions to deal with as the hosts chased down a 222-run target on a tricky track. Despite the exit of some of the big names, India A squad has maintained the balance in terms of quality and experience. The man in form Rishabh Pant added 120 runs in 19 overs for the 5th wicket with Deepak Hooda to push India to their 4th consecutive win of the series.
Pant started off slowly adjusting to the pitch before launching in the last ten. The keeper-batsman finished unbeaten on 73 from 76 balls by scoring 24 runs from his last six deliveries. The duo added 65 runs from the first 87 balls and 55 more from the last 27. Once again, Pant will make the difference between the two sides as he now travels to New Zealand for the T20I series after this game.
Match Details:
The fifth and final game of the 5-match Unofficial ODI series between India A and England Lions will be hosted by Greenfield Stadium in Karyavattom, Trivandrum.
The match starts at 9:00 AM local (IST) time (3:30 AM GMT).
This series won’t be broadcast or streamed due to conflicting with the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
Pitch Condition/Report:
The last two ODIs have increased the uncertainty as both turned out to be low scoring encounters. That said, one can only expect the last match to be a productive outing for the batsmen.
Average 1st innings score: 217.2 (List A matches)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 3, Lost – 2 (List A matches)
Probable Playing XI:
India A:
KL Rahul, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ricky Bhui, Ankit Bawne (C), Siddhesh Lad, Rishabh Pant (WK), Deepak Hooda, Rahul Chahar, Shardul Thakur/Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Avesh Khan.
Bench – Anmolpreet Singh, Jayant Yadav, Himmat Singh, Axar Patel.
Deepak Chahar could return in place of Shardul Thakur or India A could continue with the two pacers attack. Either of Axar Patel and Jayant might be a part of the XI and Lad who has been on the bench could bat in the middle-order.
England Lions:
Alex Davies (WK), Will Jacks, Sam Hain, Sam Billings (C), Tom Moores, Ollie Pope, Steven Mullaney, Lewis Gregory, Jamie Overton, Saqib Mahmood, Zak Chappell.
Bench – Dominic Bess, Matthew Carter, Ben Duckett, Danny Briggs, James Porter.
England Lions could give Saqib Mahmood and Tom Moores a chance as the two are yet to feature in this series.
Power Picks:
Rahul Chahar is a promising leg-spinner who has rarely been in the limelight. He was excluded from the 2018 U19 CWC squad and was part of Mumbai Indians last season but was benched due to Mayank Markande’s success. In his 21-match List A career, Chahar scalped 35 wickets at an average of 25.94 including a 5-wicket haul. He has always made it big in Indian colours so far.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
KL Rahul found some form in the previous match and expect him to rise to the occasion in the final game. Rishabh Pant has picked it from where he left in Australia. The England Lions all-rounders Lewis Gregory and Steven Mullaney are worthy as multipliers. Alex Davies, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sam Billings, Sam Hain and Deepak Hooda can be alternatives as well.
