What the Indian men’s cricket team could do not do weeks ago has been done by the Indian women’s team as they crushed arch-rivals Pakistan in their 3rd game of the tournament by 95 runs to top the points table after three consecutive wins. Sanjay Bangar, the batting coach of the India men’s team has sent congratulatory messages to the girls, saying that they are an inspiration for the men’s team.
Indian spinners have been simply outstanding in the tournament so far, spinning a web around the opposition in almost every game. Versus Pakistan too it was the same story as spinner Ekta Bisht ripped through the batting line-up with her 5/18 as India trounced Pakistan at Derby on Sunday. A win against Pakistan was special for the girls.
Hailing the bowling performance put up by the Mithali Raj-led side, Bangar said he hopes that the women’s team can compensate for men’s Champions Trophy loss by winning the World Cup. “I want to congratulate our Indian women’s cricket team. They won back to back three matches. Today as well, they needed to defend just 169 runs. So they displayed a spectacular bowling performance. We are getting inspired from them fully. They had already won three matches, but the tournament is very long,” Bangar told in a conversation with ANI.
“I hope the tempo and the early momentum they have got will continue. Hopefully, the women’s team could make up for Indian men’s Champions Trophy loss by winning the World Cup,” he added.
The Indian spinners dominate once again
As Ekta picked up five wickets, she was also well supported by Mansi Joshi (2/9), Harmanpreet Kaur (1/6), Jhulan Goswami (1/12), and Deepti Sharma (1/21)
The women next play Sri Lanka on July 6 and will hope to continue their winning streak and not lose the no. 1 spot on the table.
