India can be the best team of the era if they can win in England: Michael Vaughan
Vaughan lauded Virat Kohli and Co after their stupendous show in the recent series.
Michael Vaughan, the former England skipper, reckons that India can be ‘the best Test team of the era’ if they can beat the Brits on the latter’s home soil. Of late, Virat Kohli and Co beat the Three Lions by 3-1 in the four-match series at home. Joe Root’s men won the opening Test by 227 runs, but thereafter, India won three games in a row to clinch the series.
The fourth and final Test was the most one-sided affair as the hosts won by an innings and 25 runs. England had their moments in the game, but Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel’s spin duo followed by Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar’s performance with the bat decimated them. Vaughan lauded India after their stupendous show in the recent series.
Vaughan took to Twitter and wrote, “India have been far too good … the last 3 Tests they have absolutely hammered England … If they can win in England they are without a doubt the best Test team of this era … but that will take some doing against the swinging ball.”
India regain the no.1 Test spot
With the victory, India have regained their no.1 spot for teams in the ICC Test rankings. Virat Kohli’s men are now set to face New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
In the meantime, Root, the English skipper, admitted that his team wasn’t up to the mark after the opening Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He also said that Pant and Sundar took the game away from the visitors.
“The first game was a positive. We haven’t matched India in the last three, and we need to keep learning and keep getting better for this experience and this series, and we need to keep evolving and move forward,” Root was quoted as saying.
“There are some key areas where India grabbed the game and we didn’t. Washington and Rishabh played extremely well at a time when we had a good hold on the game. We also didn’t score runs the way we would have liked, and India outplayed us. Best of luck to them in the final,” he added.
