India favorites to defend the title, says Virat Kohli's childhood coach
He can already see the Indian team lift the trophy.
We witness a rather tame encounter between two top class side as India took on their archrivals Pakistan in the much-anticipated Champions Trophy match on Sunday (4th June) but one will have to say, in the end, Team India was a far better side as they managed to upstage Pakistan by 124 runs.
The Mumbai-born, Rohit Sharma and the ‘Gabbar’ Shikhar Dhawan gave the team a dream start which helped them set the tone for coming batsmen. After setting up a base for a mammoth total on board, it was King Virat Kohli and Prince Yuvraj Singh, along with the new finisher Hardik Pandya who helped India post 319 runs on the board.
Mother Nature had her plans set for this game and by virtue of that, reduced it to a 41-over game. Indian team asked Pakistan to chase 289 runs which turned out to be a difficult task for the Men in Green. Moreover, the bowlers bowled exceptionally well to restrict them to 164.
Rajkumar’s Views on India’s chances:
After the match got over, Rajkumar, Virat Kohli’s childhood coach gave his views and was delighted over India’s thumping victory over arch-rivals.
He further went on to say that the kind of cricket India has played, they seem to be in a position to defend the title and believes that India can overcome the South African side to lift the trophy.
“South Africa is a tough competitor for India, but the kind of cricket we played, it can be said that we are the favorites to win the Champions Trophy,” he said.
Rohit and Yuvraj’s performances
Rajkumar also praised Rohit Sharma and veteran Yuvraj Singh for their blazing knocks. Rohit scored 91 runs off 119 balls laced with 7 fours and 2 sixes. On the other hand, Yuvraj blased a crucial 53 runs knock off just 32 balls.
“A solid performance from the opening stand created a strong base. Both Yuvraj and Rohit proved that the form may dwindle, but the class remains permanent,” he concluded
