India has the bowling attack to rattle Australian batting line-up even with Warner and Smith: Gautam Gambhir
With Australia equipped with Warner and Smith in their armoury, it will be an arduous task for skipper Kohli and Co to prove their dominance on the Australian soil.
In the much-anticipated series Down Under, Virat Kohli and his troops are scheduled for traveling to Australia in October for three T20Is, after which they will defend the Border-Gavaskar trophy in December against a dominant Australian side.
India had won a four-Test series in Australia 2-1 in 2018-19. However, the Australian side was without the likes of David Warner and Steve Smith, who were away from the game serving a ban for their involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal.
However, post their return to international cricket, both Warner and Smith have delivered exemplary performances for Australia. With Australia equipped with Warner and Smith in their armoury, it will be an arduous task for skipper Kohli and Co to prove their dominance on the Australian soil.
It’s going to be a different challenge for skipper Kohli: Gautam Gambhir
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir, however, feels that Indian bowling line-up possesses the calibre to rattle the Australian batting force. According to Gambhir, it will be a different ‘challenge’ for skipper Kohli but he would bank on his bowlers to makes things easier for him on Australian wickets.
The Indian bowling force, in the past couple of years, has been delivering impressive performances in the traditional format. With the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav, the Indian side will be aiming to curb the run-flow and put the Aussie batsmen under pressure from the word go.
“Whether it was his first tour, whether it was the second tour, this time around, obviously, he would be gearing up for it because it’s going to be a different challenge with David Warner and Steve Smith coming back into the Australian Test line-up because India has got the bowling attack to rattle the Australian batting line-up even with Warner and Smith,” said Gambhir on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected.
“But yeah, it’s going to be a different challenge than what it was last time around, so you would want Virat Kohli to fire plus the bowlers as well because it’s the bowlers that will win you the Test matches,” added Gambhir.
