India is ahead of other ODI teams, will dominate the World Cup, predicts Sourav Ganguly
When it comes to chasing down big targets, Indian batsmen have proved themselves time and again.
Former captain Sourav Ganguly is very much impressed by the recent show put up by Team India in Australia, and even more clinical performance in New Zealand. Needless to say, this victorious streak in Down Under has started the conversation of the upcoming world cup and India’s chances in it.
If the comprehensive win against Australia on their turf was not a good enough hint, clinching a victory in the New Zealand series has surely made it clear where the Indian Team stands currently. The ODI series against the Kiwis was expected to be a difficult challenge and test the team’s mettle. One can safely say that Virat Kohli and Co passed with flying colours.
“It’s been a better performance than Australia. It has been complete domination at home and away as well,” Ganguly said to IndiaTV about the three back-to-back wins against New Zealand. “The confidence has been great and it’s quite impressive to see the bowlers get them out in 50 overs. It’s been a great year for India in ODIs.” he added.
The Indian spin-duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal has been a key factor in the victories, says the CAB president. It is because of their constant good performance and ability to pick up regular wickets that Kohli can afford to go for attack in the middle overs, which in turn does not allow the opposition any breathing space. Similar consistency has been shown by the team’s top order as well, which puts India ahead of all other ODI teams in the world, Ganguly opined.
“Kulcha (Kuldeep-Chahal) have strangled the New Zealand Batsman and overall the team has been excellent. Especially Rohit and Kohli, who have been so consistent; you don’t have such a top order in any other team in the world. India are ahead of other teams in ODI cricket. This might be one of the best World Cups we may witness.”
When it comes to chasing down big targets, Indian batsmen have proved themselves time and again. Be it building partnerships, keeping the scoreboard ticking or handling the pressure, there is enough collective experience in the top and middle order to do what is needed.
“A team cannot defeat India if you’re putting on targets such as 200 or 250, the Indian batsmen have shown the ability to chase down bigger targets. Whenever there is pressure, batsman like Rohit, Virat, Kedar or Dhoni respond with a six. They’ve learnt how to handle pressure,” Dada said in the interview.
