Team India recently registered a clinical 2-1 win over Sri Lanka in the ODI series. In the decider game at Vizag, it was opener Shikhar Dhawan who played the anchor role. In the second game at Mohali, it was Rohit Sharma who had played a whirlwind double ton to push the visitors on the backfoot. Citing the successes of the Indian top order, former cricketer VVS Laxman recently hailed the Indian top order.
As per the quotes in the IBTimes, VVS Laxman remarked that the Indian top order is very strong. In addition to Rohit and Shikhar, the team have their regular skipper Virat Kohli in at number three. With the South African series coming up, and the Indian top order being in sublime form, Laxman feels that the team is in safe hands at the moment.
“All the three batsmen finish the game. Rohit Sharma played 50 overs in Mohali, today it was Shikhar Dhawan. Virat Kohli has done that ‘n’ number of times. That is so important,” VVS Laxman quoted.
Not about personal milestones
Speaking further on the same note, the former Indian cricketer conceded that it is not always about getting to the personal milestones. The top three of the Indian batting lineup are selfless players who are willing to finish the games for the team. They often play with remarkable strike rates that push the opposition a step backwards on most occasions. Laxman feels that the men in blue are lucky to have such match winners in their side.
“It’s not only getting to personal milestones. It’s about finishing the match. That’s why India is lucky to have these three batsmen, who are impact batsmen. Their high strike rate means they are dictating the terms, not allowing the bowlers to do so. They take the responsibility and that’s why India has had a fantastic 2017,” Laxman remarked.
