India-Pakistan match security tightened post the terror attack
ICC is doing it's best to ensure nothing can hamper the game.
Security has been tightened post the terror attack that took place during Ariana Grande’s concert in the Manchester Stadium in London. Team India’s clash with arch-rivals Pakistan is set to take place following the terror attack in London, where six were people killed and three attackers were shot dead.
As per the report, the two boards- the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been informed about the security measures taken up by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the India-Pakistan clash. While there are no concrete suggestions that the match is a target of the terrorists but, the agencies have made it absolutely sure that none of these would hamper the match.
Potential terrorist attack
“Several BCCI and PCB officials were told last night about a potential terrorist attack in Edgbaston,” the sections of the Indian media reported, quoting sources close to the BCCI. “There is nothing to worry about but since the intelligence units don’t want to take any risk after the Manchester attack last month, they have told the officials from both teams to not talk to the media about it because it may create panic. They don’t want to take any risk, however,” added the source.
BCCI had serious security issues post the attack in Manchester, even suggesting that they were ready to withdraw from the tournament due to the security lapses just before a major International trophy.
“When I woke up, the first thing which I learnt was about these attacks,” BCCI acting president Amitabh Choudhary had said. “As soon as I was in the BCCI office we sent out a message raising our concerns about security of the Indian team’s travel, accommodation and the playing (arena). Thankfully ICC has responded to it within two hours. They have been sensitised about our concern.”
ICC, then issued a statement which stated that the security has been beefed up following the attacks and would ensure none of this would happen during the course of the Champions Trophy and the Women’s World Cup.
