India-Pakistan series not possible until Modi is in power, feels Shahid Afridi
Afridi seems sure that teams like England, Australia and South Africa will soon play in Pakistan.
Team India last played Pakistan in a bilateral series way back in 2012. Pakistan toured India for a two-match T20I series back then. India last played a game in 2008 during the Asia Cup and it’s been ages since these two sides played a Test match.
Strained relations between both the countries and the terrorist attacks on Sri Lanka team resulted in no bilateral series in many years now. While the fans are still hopeful of an India-Pakistan series soon, Shahid Afridi doesn’t think that will happen as long as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in power.
The fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is happening entirely in Pakistan. Teams like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh have toured the country in an attempt to revive cricket here. Afridi seems delighted with this progress. He is hopeful that many other teams like England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand will also tour the country. He even mentioned that the overseas players with whom he interacts during the PSL and the other leagues rate Pakistan’s hospitality very highly.
Shahid Afridi lauds PCB for their recent efforts
Shahid Afridi was asked about the possibility of an India-Pakistan series. However, the cricketer doesn’t think that will happen any time soon. The all-rounder said that just one person is obstructing the relationships between India and Pakistan.
“Till Modi is in power, I don’t think we will get any response from India. We have all, including Indians, understood the way Modi thinks. His thinking is inclined towards negativity. Our relationships are getting damaged just because of one person. People from either side of the border want to travel to each other’s country. I don’t understand what Modi wants to do and what his agenda really is,” he said.
Earlier in the interview, Afridi was all praise for the PCB. He lauded their efforts to bring cricket back to Pakistan and called this a huge achievement. While he feels that all the other teams will also tour Pakistan soon, he wants India also to play in Pakistan.
