India set to host U19 tri-series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka
Ahead of the World Cup next year, we will play a tri-nation series: A.E.S Kawsar
India will host a tri-series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as a part of preparation for the 2018 World Cup in New Zealand. The game development manager of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, A.E.M. Kawsar further confirmed the news.
Prior to the 2016 U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh team were engaged in a bilateral series against South Africa and Sri Lanka. West Indies defeated the Indian side in the previous year’s U-19 World Cup. West Indies also went on to win the ICC World T20 Championship in both men’s and women’s categories.
A.E.M Kawsar went on to state that the U-19 team will travel to India to take part in a series which would also include Sri Lanka. He further added that India will also host the next edition of as Asia Cup ahead of the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
“Ahead of the World Cup next year, we will play a tri-nation series. India will host the series, and Sri Lanka will be the other side. Apart from that, India will also host the Under-19 Asia Cup next year prior to the World Cup.” as quoted as saying by bdcrictime.com.
A.E.M. Kawsar also revealed their plans for the World Cup. They are planning to initiate a camp prior to the start of the tournament.”We are planning to have a camp in New Zealand. It will help our players adapt to the different conditions.” he further added.
The Bangladesh Cricket board has also planned another bilateral series against Sri Lanka in October. “We have penned the preliminary plans to play a bilateral series against Sri Lanka in October. Though the series is yet to be officially on the card, we are hopeful to go ahead with it.”
The 2018 U-19 World Cup is scheduled to commence on 12th January 2018 till 4th February 2018. New Zealand will be the first team ever to host the event thrice.
