Following their highly publicised marriage, the media scrutiny on both Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma has increased by an exponential level. While the scrutiny has indeed increased, it would also seem as though the trolling on popular social media sites has also increased along with the scrutiny. The India skipper, however, seems to have had enough of all this with a tweet that states ‘shame’ to all of those who have trolled his wife due to his poor performances in recent times.

The recent tour of South Africa saw the Indians fail yet again to secure a Test series victory over the Proteas, something they have been attempting since 1992. Following a loss in the second Test, something that saw the hosts take an unassailable lead, Kohli was subject to heavy scrutiny from the media, something the 29-year old did not take very well. Even the likes of Mohammed Azharuddin and Kapil Dev came out in criticism for the skipper.

Kohli addresses the trolls

Since then, there has been heavy criticism, not just on Kohli, but his lady love – Anushka Sharma. This is something that continued for a while where many of the Twitterati singled out Anushka for her hand in distracting Kohli during the tour.

In a bid to protect his wife, Kohli went ahead and posted a tweet wherein he said, ‘Shame on people for trolling @AnushkaSharma non-stop. Have some compassion. She has always only given me positivity’. In a recent interview, Kohli also reiterated that he and Anushka had never paid attention to the trolls. He also went on to add that it was rather surprising and alarming how the trolls were beginning to get a lot more vicious and negative as well.

Even former India cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar has come out and lambasted the trolls stating that she has indeed been a positive influence on Kohli and has made him a better cricketer as well. However, the 29-year old’s skills and eventually, his bat also did the talking as the limited-overs’ scene in South Africa did indeed have India written all over it.
