India to host Australia in a three-match ODI series in January 2020
The dates are not yet fixed.
India and Australia will be locking horns in the three One-Day Internationals in January next year. The Men in Blue will be hosting the Kangaroos in what is being referred to as one of the most significant shift in Australia’s home season. This schedule was according to ICC Future Tour Program (FTP) as Australia had to complete their India tour by late January 2020. But reports stated that the Cricket Australia (CA) had requested the BCCI to postpone the series later in the year.
But the Indian board refused to do so and rather insisted the series to begin a few days early according to News 18. With the ODI series against India getting confirmed, Australia have been forced to drop their home ODI series against New Zealand.
That series was supposed to begin after the New Year’s Test in Sydney. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) is understood to have accepted the request and the series between the Trans-Tasman rivals will now be played later in 2020. “We’re quite relaxed about it and confident a contingency can be arranged,” the NZC spokesman told while speaking to stuff-co.nz.
Main Aussie players to miss BBL?
The scheduling of this series has put the new CA chief executive Kevin Roberts in a spot of bother now. With the Australia team players travelling to India in January and the international home season to precede that tour, the most of top-level players will miss the chunk of the Big Bash League (BBL) season which is played every year in December and January.
‘We have been working hard to rejig the schedule to fit a change in dates for the two ODI series, at home with New Zealand and away with India, on the back end of the Sydney test but there are necessary trade-offs. As a sport, we are fortunate that we have three formats, a compelling international and domestic offering for both men and women. Complexities are bound to and often arise,” the CA spokesperson said on the matter.
