India to undergo preparatory camp under new coach Anil Kumble ahead of West Indies tour

Team India will undergo a preparatory camp from June 29-July 4 at NCA, Bangalore before they head to West Indies for four-match Test series beginning July 21.

This would be India’s first series under new coach Anil Kumble, who was named India’s new head coach on June 23 fro a year’s term. The leg-spinning legend beat tough competition from the likes of team director Ravi Shastri, Sandeep Patil and many others to become the head coach.

Sanjay Bangar, the interim coach of the national set-up for the just concluded tour of Zimbabwe will accompany the team as batting coach while & Abhay Sharma will tour with the team as the fielding coach for India’s tour of West Indies. Sharma, former Railways and Delhi wicket-keeper batsman, held coaching positions with Under-19, India ‘A’ and Rest of India units. He also recently served as the fielding coach for the ODIs and T20Is played against Zimbabwe.

The Indian team will tour to West Indies in July and August, where they are scheduled to play four Tests. The seven-week long tour will have four Tests and two practice matches. The Tests will be played in Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.

The tour under the helm of Virat Kohli will start with a two-day practice match from July 9 in St Kitts followed by a three-day warm-up match from July 14 at the same venue. The first Test will begin on July 21, the second on July 30, the third on August 9 and the last one on August 18. The last time India toured the West Indies was in June 2011 for a three-Test series, which India won 1-0.
